Defunct is an Adventure - Computer game that from the Swedish indie development studio developed Freshly Squeezed and SOEDESCO on 29 January 2016 for Steam for Microsoft Windows , on 19 December 2017 the Microsoft Store , on 19 December 2019 PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and was released for Nintendo Switch on September 13, 2019 .

Game principle and plot

Defunct takes place on a posthuman earth. The player plays an old, broken racing robot whose name is unknown. It accidentally fell from a spaceship and has to reach it again before it takes off. He is barely able to move himself, so he has to take advantage of the environment by using the Gravitize ability to increase his attraction. If the robot activates this function during departures, it will be faster. Disabling this ability when driving uphill leads to a lower decrease in speed. There are checkpoints and speed increases in all levels , either in the form of small balls that give a short speed boost, or as bottles that fill a blue bar after being collected and can be used whenever the player wishes. The player also has the ability to “magnetize”, which allows them to adhere to magnetic surfaces. The player can also collect yellow rings and thus unlock new skins and take part in time trials online in previously completed levels, in which he has to complete a level as quickly as possible. He can collect green balls with a 1 on them to stop the clock for a second.
