Degradosome

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The degradosome is a bacterial protein complex that is involved in the breakdown of mRNA . The complex consists of the endoribonuclease RNase E , the phosphate-dependent exoribonuclease polynucleotide phosphorylase (PNPase) and the DEAD-box RNA helicase B (RhlB). The composition of the degradosome varies depending on the organism. Similar protein complexes, called exosomes and made up of up to ten proteins, are known in eukaryotes and archaa .
