The DHSV Dithmarschen was created in 1972 from the merger of the two dike and main sewer associations Norder- and Süderdithmarschen and is based in Hemmingstedt . It is the supreme association of 55 dyke and sewer associations and at the same time the processing area association of processing area 9, which is largely in the Eider river basin district , but also in the Elbe river basin district. The district administrator of Dithmarschen exercises legal supervision over DHSV Dithmarschen .

The task of DHSV Dithmarschen and its sub-associations is, in addition to the maintenance of bodies of water and the implementation of the European Water Framework Directive, above all the maintenance of the central dykes and the operation and maintenance of pumping stations .

Since 1982, the Dithmarschen sewage association has existed as a further sub-association , to which 114 Dithmarschen municipalities belong as association members. The overhead line of the wastewater association lies with DHSV Dithmarschen.
