Deimos-1 is a Spanish Earth observation satellite operated by Deimos Imaging that sells images directly but also through distribution agreements with other entities such as Astrium and DMC International Imaging .
history
Deimos-1 was built by Surrey Satellite Technology on the basis of the SSTL-100 satellite bus. Deimos-1 was placed in 686 kilometers high, sun synchronous, near-Earth orbit. The launch was carried out by ISC Kosmotras on July 29, 2009 at 18:46 UTC from launch site 109/95 in Baikonur in Kazakhstan . The Dnepr-1 launcher also launched the DubaiSat 1 , UK-DMC 2 , Nanosat 1B , AprizeSat-3 and AprizeSat-4 satellites into space .
Optical instrument
The satellite has a life expectancy of five years. He carries a multispectral image recording device with a resolution of 22 meters and a swath width of 600 kilometers, which works in the green, red and near-infrared spectrum.
advantages
These optical satellite images open up new perspectives for users to develop services and applications in various markets, such as: B. maritime applications, agriculture, environment or forestry.
- fast coverage of areas thanks to the large strip width
- Near real-time functionality
- inexpensive
