Dejan Despić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Дејан Деспић ; born May 11, 1930 in Belgrade , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian composer, author, music theorist and educator.

Career

Dejan Despić studied composition with Marko Tajčević and conducting with Mihailo Vukdragović at the Belgrade Music Academy from 1950 to 1955 . Afterwards he devoted himself to didactics in addition to composing.

From 1956 to 1965 he taught at the "Mokranjac" music school in Belgrade. From 1965 to 1999 he was a professor at the Belgrade Music Academy, today's (FMU) Faculty Muzičke Umetnosti.

From 1999 to 2012 he was head of the Department of Fine Arts and Music.

Dejan Despić is a full member of the Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences (SANU). He is the author of around 240 compositions, including the opera Pop Ćira i pop Spira , as well as textbooks for music theory , harmony theory , harmony analysis , orchestration for schools and universities, but also in the field of scientific-theoretical studies. His works have been published by Musikverlag Brandstätter, Cologne, since 2013.
