A decorative laminate is a surface material that is used both in interior construction and in building construction . Typical fields of application are the surfaces of kitchen countertops and tables or facade cladding . All decorative laminates are laminates . In terms of technical structure, a distinction is made between three types: high pressure laminates (HPL, High Pressure Laminate), compact laminates (CPL, Compact Pressure Laminate) and compact panels.

Decorative laminate is subject to EN 438 .

Decorative laminate was developed more than 60 years ago. One of the first manufacturers was Resopal GmbH from Groß-Umstadt, which still produces decorative laminate today. Decorative laminate is now used in many areas:
