Dellbrücker Hauptstrasse 143

The building Dellbrücker main road 143 in Cologne district of Dellbrück is a listed residential and commercial building.

description

The building, erected around 1907, shows elements of Art Nouveau and Historicism . In its Art Nouveau elements, it represents a current of this style epoch in which asymmetries and half-timbering were used for the design of house facades , and which thus stands out from the Art Nouveau buildings oriented towards classicism . It was designed with two and a half storeys, biaxially .

facade

On the ground floor a shop is housed, the front door to the overlying apartments as a mezzanine floor above the street level.

The plastered upper floor has a bay window with an approximately square floor plan on the left axis , which is provided with a downwardly tapering console that protrudes into the facade part of the first floor. To the right of the bay window, its base plate is continued as a small balcony, both parts have the same profile on the lower edges. The windows on both axes as well as the balcony door are lifted from the otherwise smooth plastered wall by indicated stucco work .

On the right axis of the building there is a roof bay window , which, in contrast to the rest of the building, is made of half-timbered construction. The parapet of the framework protrudes down into the upper floor, and the two bay windows also correspond to the two windows below on the right-hand side of the upper floor. The smooth plaster on the compartment also relates the roof bay to the rest of the building.

Interior design

The ceiling of the hallway is surrounded by a cove , which is lined with profile strips on both sides. The floor has a gray central field that is surrounded by a narrow black frame. This dissolves into a floral ornament at the corners and is in turn surrounded by a wide red frame. The stairwell has a two-flight wooden staircase with a wooden railing and handrail, and the framing of the hallway is repeated.

meaning

The Dellbrücker Hauptstraße was originally a corridor path that connected the villages of Thurn and Dünnwald and the Diepeschrather mill. In the course of its expansion after the opening of the Mülheim-Bergisch Gladbach section of the Cologne-Mülheim – Lindlar railway in 1868, it was largely just laid out. Starting at Thurner Hof, it crosses Bergisch Gladbacher Straße and ends at the train station with the neighboring Alte Post. Both sides of the street were built with residential and commercial buildings since the 1870s, the last gaps of which were closed with Art Nouveau buildings in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Including the building in Dellbrücker Hauptstrasse 143. Since November 24, 1983, it has been a listed building for the Dellbrück district (No. 1866) because of its artistic and historical significance.
