Demethylation

In organic chemistry, demethylation ( demethylation ) describes a process in which a methyl group  (CH 3 ) is removed from a molecule. In biochemical systems, this is mostly done enzymatically by oxidation of the methyl group, for example by enzymes from the cytochrome P450 family .
