Demjaniv Las

Demjaniw Las ( Ukrainian Дем'янів лаз ; Russian Демьянов Лаз Demjanow Las , Polish Demianów Łaz ) is the name of a valley near Ivano-Frankivsk in the Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast in western Ukraine . There was a mass grave of people executed by the NKVD from 1939 to 1941. Most of the victims had bullet holes in the back of their heads. The remains of over 500 people were properly buried in late October 1989. There is a small memorial.
