Demm

Demm Motorcycles (Spa Officine Meccaniche Fratelli Daldi & Matteucci, Porretta Terme) was a motorcycle manufacturer from Italy that existed from 1953 to around 1988 and was initially based in Bologna and later in Milan .

"Dick Dick" from 1960

The production program included two and four-stroke engines up to 175 cm³, which were supplied to other manufacturers, as well as smaller motorized two-wheelers, especially mopeds and mopeds . These were mostly equipped with 49 cm³ ("50") two-stroke engines. In 1959 and 1960 some racing motorcycles with 49 cc engines were also built.

Demm exported its two-wheelers to Great Britain, Australia, the Netherlands and Germany, among others. In Germany, the Smily and Scout mopeds in particular were sold in the mid-1970s , but they were unable to gain any significant market share.

Demm was among other things known for his sometimes unusual naming. In the 1950s there was a moped called Dick Dick , followed by the Dick-Matic in the 70s . Another moped or moped from the 1970s was called ping-pong , and its small wheels and low frame made it particularly suitable for campers. At the same time a 2-seater Mokick was offered, which was initially equipped with a foot-shifted 3-speed gearbox under the name "AMERICA" and had 2.2 HP from 49 cm³. The later version, with the name "FOX" (AM40), was not only visually changed compared to its predecessor model, but now had a foot-shifted 4-speed gearbox. However, the engine now only had 48 cm³ and 1.68 hp.

History of the company DEMM

The DEMM company became part of GRAZIANO-TRASMISSIONI in Poretta (Province of Bologna).

The further mergers with the following companies have apparently completely displaced the name DEMM:

1992 - GRAZIANO Trasmissioni became part of SAURER AG, a world leader in textile machinery, as the SAURER power transmission system department

2006 - The SAURER power transmission systems division (Graziano Trasmissioni) has been expanded with the acquisition of Fairfield-Manufacturing, a US market leader in the manufacture of customer-specific transmissions and special drive solutions for the heavy-duty industry and off-highway applications.

2007 - Graziano and Fairfield merged into the Oerlikon Group as Oerlikon Drive Systems, which are now called Oerlikon Graziano and Oerlikon Fairfield.

2012 - On June 29, the Paritel Group acquired all of the DEMM share package from the Oerlikon Graziano Group.
