White Rose Memorial

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The White Rose Memorial at the atrium of the Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU) in Munich is a central place of remembrance for the history of the White Rose student resistance . It was opened in 1997 in cooperation with the White Rose Foundation and the university. Since then, people there have been gathering information about the White Rose resistance group; currently over 40,000 a year, almost 40 percent of which come from abroad.

The exhibition “The White Rose - Resistance to the Nazi Dictatorship”, which was renewed in 2017, offers a look at the history of the White Rose and places its resistance in the context of Nazi reign of terror and war . Special attention is paid to the leaflets in the exhibition, as well as to the historical influences that can be seen in the resistance campaigns. In nine interactive media stations, the biographies of the protagonists of the resistance movement are conveyed and the expansion of the resistance beyond Munich is described. A separate section is dedicated to the memory of the White Rose from 1943 to the present day.

The exhibition texts are in German and English; admission to the memorial is free. The White Rose Memorial is open on weekdays and Saturdays.
