Memorial to the victims of National Socialism

The memorial for the victims of National Socialism was erected in 2014 by the city of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm . It is located on the western gable end of the House of Encounter . It is freely accessible and can be viewed at any time.

Artist and intention

The artist Thomas Neumair had a red steel beam pierced through the upper corner of the house. His intention was that the steel girder should be felt like an acupuncture needle that anchors these painful experiences of National Socialist history in the city's collective memory. Where the steel girder penetrates the corner of the House of Encounters, there are two six-meter-tall panels depicting the “apple priest” Korbinian Aigner . The position of the steel girder was chosen so that it can also be seen from Kellerstrasse and the main square.

Documentary character

The monument has a documentary character. Biographies of victims and perpetrators during the brief era of National Socialism are appropriate on an equal footing. This exemplary selection of Pfaffenhofeners who played a role during the Nazi regime is intended to bring the past to life through faces and names.
