Carl Holsøe
Carl Vilhelm Holsøe (born March 12, 1863 in Aarhus , † November 7, 1935 in Asserbo in the northern part of the island of Zealand ) was a Danish painter .
Life
Holsøe studied from 1882 to 1884 at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen and then at the Free Art School with Peder Severin Krøyer . His younger brother Niels Holsøe also became a painter.
Carl Holsøe married Emilie Heise in 1894. He received several scholarships , including in 1897 for a stay in Italy .
Carl Holsøe made his debut in December 1886 with a depiction of a living room in the style of 17th century Dutch painters. The work became the model for his further work. In addition to the interior scenes, Holsøe sometimes also painted still lifes , portraits and landscapes .
From 1888 to 1910 and from 1922 to 1933 he showed his works at the spring exhibition of the Charlottenburg art gallery and in 1909 and 1914 at the autumn exhibition. His works brought him many awards.
In 1901, Holsøe showed his circle of friends on a five-person portrait: Vilhelm Hammershøi , his brother Svend Hammershøi, Jens Ferdinand Willumsen , Karl Madsen and Thorvald Bindesbøll .
His wife Emilie died in 1930. On October 21, 1935, two weeks before his death, he married Ingeborg Margrethe Knudsen.
