Denominação de Origem Protegida

Denominação de Origem Protegida ( port. For: Protected Designation of Origin ), short- DOP is the Portuguese label for products with a protected designation of origin in accordance with the EC law .

It was introduced in 2011 as the highest quality seal above the country's existing seals and designations of origin.

Products

There are 67 products registered as protected DOP products with the EU (as of October 2015).

These include cheese, olive oils, fruit, vegetables, salt and honey. Portuguese wines , baked goods and other well-known specialties are not protected as DOP, but as DOC ( Denominação de Origem Controlada , German: Protected Geographical Indications / PGI).
