The Departamento Administrativo de Seguridad (DAS) was Colombia's domestic secret service from 1960 to 2011 . The DAS was replaced by the Dirección Nacional de Inteligencia (DNI). The previous organization was the Departamento Administrativo del Servicio de Inteligencia Colombiano .

On May 30, 1989, there was an attempted attack on Miguel Maza Marquez , the director of DAS at the time, in Bogotá using a car bomb. Four people died and 37 were injured. On December 6, 1989, the organization's headquarters in Bogotá were attacked. A bus with 500 kg of explosives exploded directly in front of the building. The Medellín cartel was blamed for the attack .

In 2005, the then director, Jorge Noguera Cotes , had to resign because the DAS was rumored to have been infiltrated by the Autodefensas Unidas de Colombia (AUC). He was sentenced on September 14, 2011 by the Supreme Court to 25 years in prison. He had given lists of names of left activists and trade unionists to death squads. He had also shared intelligence information with the paramilitary group that helped AUC leaders escape. Noguera has also deleted criminal records and arrest warrants.

On October 31, 2011, President Juan Manuel Santos announced the dissolution of DAS on December 31, 2011. The general reasons were the scandals surrounding the links between the DAS and the paramilitary groups . The 5000 employees of the service should be distributed among the public prosecutor's office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Interior as well as the National Police of Colombia . Felipe Muñoz was responsible for the transition process . He was also charged with providing information. The successor organization of the DAS should be named Dirección Nacional de Inteligencia and be provided with more controls from the point of view of human rights .
