Department of Environment and Conservation (Western Australia)

The Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC for short) of Western Australia was founded on July 1, 2006. It emerged from the merger of the Department of Environment and the Department of Conservation and Land Management (CALM) . It was dissolved on June 30, 2013.

The DEC was subordinate to the Minister for the Environment and its main task was to protect and preserve nature. DEC was responsible for the administration and management of all nature reserves in Western Australia, including the National Parks , Marine Parks , Conservation Parks , State Forests , Timber Reserves , Nature Reserves , Marine Nature Reserves and Marine Management Areas . The authority was subject to more than 273,718 km² area (as of 2009), which corresponds to more than 10% of the total area of Western Australia .
