Gustav Hertel

Gustav Hertel (born December 1, 1847 in Calbe (Saale) , † November 24, 1903 in Magdeburg ) was a German historian .

Life

Hertel visited the Latina of the Francke Foundations in Halle (Saale) . From 1867 he studied history and philology at the University of Halle . After completing his studies in 1873, Hertel took a position as a teacher at the pedagogy of the monastery of Our Dear Women in Magdeburg. From 1891 he became a senior teacher and finally in 1891 a professor at the school.

As a historian, Hertel devoted himself mainly to the history of Magdeburg and the surrounding area. On behalf of the Historical Commission of the Province of Saxony , Hertel edited several document books. In 1885, together with Friedrich Hülße, he edited the history of the city of Magdeburg, revised by Friedrich Wilhelm Hoffmann. Hertel was a member of the Association for History and Archeology of the Duchy and Archbishopric of Magdeburg and worked there as an editor for the history sheets for the city and state of Magdeburg published by the association .
