Dephosphorus is a Greek black metal , death metal and grindcore band from Athens , founded in 2008.

history

The band was formed in summer 2008 by guitarist Thanos Mantas and singer Panos Agoros after their previous band Straighthate split up. In 2011 the first EP was released under the name Axiom . The following year, the debut album Night Sky Transform , which was followed by Ravenous Solemnity in 2014 . In the latter, John Votsis is represented as the new drummer. In 2017, the album Impossible Orbits was released via Selfmadegod Records , some of the recordings of which were already three years old.

style

According to Simon Dümpelmann from Rock Hard , the band plays an unusual mixture of Grindcore and Extreme Metal , which makes the music sound aggressive, atmospheric and aloof. Impossible Orbits also seem rawer, more compact and more to the point, whereby the predecessor could almost be assigned to Progressive Metal . The group itself describes their music as “Astrogrind” and thematizes things like science fiction, astronomy and cosmology. Above all, human behavior determines the texts. Simon Dümpelmann from Rock Hard noted that there was a singer swap on the Collaboration LP . The "hoarse-hysterical screaming" of Panos is replaced by "idiosyncratic, downright dark-psychedelic grindcore". Haapoja sound less adventurous. Stephan Möller from Metal.de stated in his review of Night Sky Transform that, in contrast to Axiom, no synthesizer sounds could be heard on the album , instead aggressive music prevailed. On the album, the group turned away from their “Astrogrind” because the songs were quite long, which is why the band released a sound carrier for the first time that was longer than 20 minutes. In the songs there are mostly slower passages that are reminiscent of Nasum . The band also incorporated influences from Black , Death and Doom Metal . The group also tries to use clear vocals in the songs. Above all, the mood, the riffs and the song structures are based on Grindcore, the riffs have a black sound and there are " fatal influences [and] beating ".
