Deppo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The (der) Deppo was an East Indian measure of length on the island of Sumatra . It was next to the East Indian cubit , the Etto with 210 ¾ Parisian lines (other source 207 Parisian lines) = 481 millimeters , the foot Cakih , the span Janca and the finger Tscharry as an inch , the fathom . In a travel description it says next to these measurements and their representations on the human body: " The Deppo, or the fathoms, is the length of the outstretched arms from one fingertip to the other. " The length measure was about 6 hamburger feet (0.286 meters ) which corresponded to 762 Paris lines. That works out to around 1.7182 meters.
