Depressive Syndrome

As a depressive syndrome a cluster of is symptoms referred, typical of a depression are. Core symptoms are: depressed mood , loss of interest and joy, increased fatigue.

Other common symptoms are concentration and attention deficits , decreased self-esteem and self-confidence, feelings of guilt and worthlessness, negative and pessimistic future prospects, psychomotor restlessness or inhibition, suicidal thoughts , self-harm or acts of suicide, sleep disorders , decreased appetite .

A depressive episode is when a depressive syndrome lasts for at least two weeks.

Differentiation from depression

The term "Depressive Syndrome" is not always clearly differentiated from depression. The terms are sometimes used synonymously; partly as a generic term for different forms of depression, if one cannot or does not want to make any statements about the cause or the severity.

Depressive syndromes occur in many psychiatric diseases such as obsessive-compulsive disorder , anxiety disorders , alcoholism , in connection with so-called personality disorders or in psychoses such as schizophrenia . These are diagnosed for some neurological and internal diseases as well as side effects of some drugs .
