Carlos Larios, owner of the international pharmaceutical company "Lar-Creel", informs his wife Catalina Creel that he has discovered the secret that she has had before him for years and that he is now planning to change his will. Catalina realizes she needs to act quickly and poisons his morning orange juice. Carlos does not notice this and goes to work. In his dazed state, he sped his car into Leonora Navarro's workplace before he had a fatal heart attack. Leonora finds Carlos' wallet and contacts his son Alejandro, to whom she finally returns the wallet. Out of gratitude, the two decide to keep in touch.
When Carlos dies, his will is published, in which his two sons, Alejandro and José Carlos, learn that the one who gains control of the company is who can first produce an heir. Catalina tries her son Alejandro, who is already married, to be the first to comply with this wish instead of her stepson José Carlos. Alejandro, who is all too familiar with Catalina's family traditions and expectations, hides his wife Vilma's sterility, knowing that Catalina would force him to divorce as a result. But since he also has a sense of obligation to the company, he decides to contact Leonora. She is supposed to give Alejandro and Vilma the desired heirs, while Vilma fakes pregnancy. Esperanza, Leonora's godmother, is not enthusiastic about the plan, but Alejandro is soon able to persuade her to play along. Leonora and Alejandro's relationship deepens, and she becomes pregnant too, when Catalina behind the fake pregnancy that Vilma comes from. Alejandro finally confesses the whole truth to his mother in order to save his marriage. Meanwhile, Catalina wants Alejandro and Leonora to marry so that they can take care of the child as soon as it is born ...
