short version

Cycle 1 - Action period: 1997

A military patrol finds an unidentified three meter tall humanoid creature. When the American president wants to examine them on a secret military base in New Mexico , an attack is carried out on him. When a mysterious woman (Debrah Faith) intervenes at the last moment, the president survives with serious injuries. Kevin Nivek, the president's security officer, was released shortly after the attack. Convinced that he was only a scapegoat in this case, he tries to uncover the background of the attack and his release on his own and thus stumbles on the Strygen. Various tracks lead Nivek and his friends to possible hiding places on the Strygen, including the Andes and the Amazon region. Ultimately, a cave that serves as a meeting place for the Strygen is tracked down. There the entire history of humanity and the planet, past, present and future, is carved in stone.

Cycle 2 - Action period: 2004

Several years have passed since the first encounters with the Strygen. Nivek's friend Melinda continues to suffer from an infection unknown to humans. Debrah is assigned by her secret organization to track down the mysterious businessman Sandor G. Weltman and eliminate him. She and Nivek receive support from Jill, another member of the secret organization. Weltman can obtain the so-called magic book, which contains all the secrets of the Strygen, through his middleman Colonel Reese. In addition, the mysterious old siblings Celia and Abel appear, who have magical abilities and introduce themselves as Weltman's archenemy. To save Melinda, Nivek betrays Debrah and Jill to Weltman. In the showdown of this cycle, Debrah kills Weltman, for Melinda any help comes too late.

Cycle 3 - Action period: 2011–2012

A few years have passed since the death of Sandor G. Weltman. Debrah has taken over his company empire and dissolved it step by step. In the process, she came across Chrys, another hybrid that Weltman held captive. Together they discover that there are many more hybrids around the world. In addition, with the help of other supporters, they are trying to catch a pair of Strygen and by artificial insemination to produce offspring for the Strygen, as these have been sterile since a meteorite hit the earth. At the same time, the mass murderer Sinner, also a hybrid, is freed from prison by Celia and Abel and charged with the murder of all other hybrids. Nivek, who is under the influence of the Strygen female, frees her and helps her to give birth to her offspring. All characters eventually find themselves in the Strygen's cave. Debrah calls for a new order of things in which people and Strygen are equal. After being refused, Debrah destroys the cave, killing all of the Strygen and throwing the world into chaos. Only the young, newborn Stryge survived. At the end of the series, Nivek and Debrah can convince the Strygen to give humanity a new chance. However, Nivek dies in the last fight with Sinner.

reception

“The Singing of the Strygen” is certainly one of the most underrated comic series. It contains everything that makes a good story: a complex story with many storylines, the necessary level of violence, thoughtful characters, a mixture of reality and fantasy and opaque, mysterious conspiracies. In short: you can tell from the story that it was written by a narrator with a lot of experience in the field. "
