According to the motto “Which animal suits me”, animal expert Kate Kitchenham advises people from all over Germany who want a pet in “The Pet Check”. In an entertaining and informative way, she brings the needs and husbandry requirements of the respective animal species closer to those seeking advice and clarifies whether the desire for pets can be reconciled with the respective living situation. Visits to animal welfare associations, animal shelters and breeders are part of the program. The spectrum of the animals presented includes not only the classic domestic animals such as dogs , cats and small animals ( hamsters , rabbits , guinea pigs ). Even freshwater shrimp or exotic Madagascar colored frogs find a new and species-appropriate home in the broadcast.

“The Pet Check” is produced by Caligari Entertainment, a subsidiary of Caligari Film , on behalf of ZDF . The shooting takes place across Germany. The program is broadcast on Sundays at 1:15 p.m. on ZDF. On June 29, 2014, the first season started with six episodes, the second season comprised ten episodes, which could be seen from June to September 2015. The second season “The Pet Check” achieved a market share of up to 12.5 percent and 1.45 million viewers. The third season of the successful animal show has been in production since autumn 2015.
