Lord of the Dark Circles (Original title: Bored of the Rings ) is a parody of JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, first published in 1969 . It was written by Harvard students Henry N. Beard and Douglas C. Kenney. Both are or were members of Harvard Lampoon , a satire / humor group at Harvard University in America . The translator of the Lord of the Rings , Margaret Carroux , also translated the parody into German.

action

In the third age of Lower Middle Earth, the so-called tin age, a small boggie named Frito is entrusted with a mighty ring. He and his loyal companions Spam, Mopsi, Pepsi, the magician Gutgolf, Arabikum von Arabeske, the Elf Legolam and the dwarf Gimbohr are supposed to bring him to Sauerkopf's realm Fordor and destroy him there in the Zazu Abysses. With a few complications, the heroes manage to win the final battle against Fordor and restore peace to Lower Middle-earth.

Kobenland

The Kobenland is the corruption of the Shire, it is a dirty place full of retarded, hungry, furry creatures, the boggies .

Boggies

The boggies are the inhabitants of the Kobenland and thus the corruption of the hobbits . They are described as insidious, gun-loving and extremely devouring. Just like the hobbits, they were divided into three tribes, the stallions , the clubfeet and the fair-skinned (instead of the staring, the harefoot and the fallow- skinned ).

Like hobbits, they are alien to complicated technology; they are limited to a garrot , a blackjack and a Luger pistol .

The Boggies of Kobenland are subjects of the High King of Rippenrost, who fell in the battle with the Schlunzenherr von Borax.

Translations

The German translation by Margaret Carroux appeared in 1983 . The translator also translated the original novel into German between 1969 and 1970.
