The opera friend

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Der Opernfreund is a German-language opera newspaper that is operated as a website.

The focus of the articles is on extensive opera reviews. However, the site is devoted to all of musical theater . Operettas and musicals are also discussed and relevant DVDs and books are reviewed. New contributions appear several times a week and reflect current events mainly in German music theater. Current productions from other countries such as Italy, France or Hungary will also be discussed. The site reports from over 500 theaters, which in view of the number of existing music theaters for the German-speaking area is almost a complete representation. Another special feature of this newspaper are the regular and detailed reports from small and medium-sized theaters. With small music theaters, the opera fan is, besides the local newspaper, sometimes the only reviewer and therefore an important national source for such productions. Other opera magazines and portals, such as Opernglas , are almost exclusively devoted to the big houses and famous names. Over 40 authors write for opera lovers , all of whom identify their articles by name. The critics work on a voluntary basis and sometimes also write for other opera magazines and portals, such as B. Orpheus or Opera Lounge.

The site does not pursue any financial interests. The newspaper is therefore free for the reader and no advertisements are included. The website is recommended by various printed opera books and is cited as a source in national and international opera literature.

The Opernfreund awards the “Opernfreund-Stern” for particularly successful performances. A negative prize is also awarded: the “Opernfreund-Schnuppe”.
