The warrior's dance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dance of the Warrior is a western novel by the American writer Michael Blake . It appeared in English for the first time in 2001 under the original title The Holy Road and is the continuation of Blake's novel Dances with Wolves , which was filmed in 1990 by Kevin Costner of the same name and with great commercial success. Since 2007 at the latest, there have been plans to film this novel as well.

action

The novel is set in 1874, eleven years after Dances with Wolves . John Dunbar alias Dances with Wolves is recognized as a warrior among the Comanches and meanwhile has three children with his wife Standing with a Fist . It is about the kidnapping of his wife and one of his children by white rangers, as well as the Indians' plan to meet the US President in Washington, DC for peace talks.

reception

In 2001 Publishers Weekly ruled that characters familiar from the previous novel and reappearing in more significant roles made the book a stronger historical novel with a much broader span. Blake's ability to evoke sadness, joy, action and emotions is as strong as ever.

Planning for filming

In around 2007, Australian director Simon Wincer planned to make the novel into a film. As the main actor and thus as a replacement for Kevin Costner , Viggo Mortensen was certain that important supporting actors should resume their roles that they had played in Dances with Wolves . Filming was scheduled to start in 2009. So far, however, no film has been released (as of October 2018). According to later press reports, Daniel Ostroff , manager of Michael Blake, secured the rights to the film adaptation of The Holy Road in 2014 .
