The sensible pastime was a moral weekly founded in Pressburg . Its author was Karl Gottlieb von Windisch .

Work genesis

This supplement to the Pressburger Zeitung directly followed on from its predecessor, The Friend of Virtue . In the tradition of the north German or English moral weeklies, Windisch brought "Thoughts of Humanity" (2nd Coll.), " Experiment on Man , from the English of Alexander Pope " (3rd Coll.), "Thoughts of God's existence "(3rd coll.)," History of diligence and calm "(4th coll.)," The temple of ignorance "(4th coll.). The consolidation of custom, decency and character was the concern of the author. Numerous anecdotes, short stories and stories underpin the educational character of this weekly. The sheet was long thought to be lost, but has now been found in the Hungarian National Széchényi Library .
