The wild Alexander (also Master Alexander , wrote in the middle / end of the 13th century) was an Upper German minstrel and poet . In his work, which has been handed down in a relatively narrow range, there are minneongs , corpse and song poetry .
Life
The poet, who might come from Alemannia or Switzerland , is not only represented in the Codex Manesse , where he is depicted as a rider in a red robe, with songs, but also in the Jena song manuscript . He wrote poetry towards the end of the 13th century. Research disagrees as to whether Alexander belonged to the lower nobility, but overwhelmingly assumes that he was a traveling singer.

Songs
Four of Alexander's songs have been preserved in full, one fragmentary. He uses images that are difficult to resolve, which suggests that the author is highly educated. Alexander wrote a Christmas poem, a love corpse , which deals with the nature of Cupid and mentions the destruction of Troy , and the poem Here before we were children , one of the few depictions of childhood in contemporary poetry.

Oh dear, that love brings us suffering when we look after it! Now Minne wants me to write about her. She said: Write of the greatest sorrow when lovers part, sadly and forever. // I want to write this song for my lady and me. She lives through me and I through her. We alleviate our complaint by complaining together: Minne is and can command us to experience short joy and long days through her.
