Desktop Service Provider

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Desktop Service Provider ( DSP for short ) offers similar services to Application Service Provider (ASP); however, the focus is on the desktop that is made available.

The desktop in focus

The term desktop describes a graphical user interface . In contrast to ASP , which operates the individual application, DSP focuses on the holistic approach. As a rule, the user gets his virtual desktop via the Internet and thus not only has the required applications available, but the entire environment, which, for example, allows documents to be stored in a file structure and searched.

Difference between DSP and classic outsourcing

With classic outsourcing for SMEs , your own IT infrastructure is looked after and maintained by an external outsourcing company. The risk remains with the owner of the IT infrastructure. Outages, replacement devices, etc. are usually not covered by the standard contract in the case of outsourcing. In contrast, the DSP offers a standardized EDP environment, i. H. the devices do not belong to the customer. Through consistent standardization , failures can be compensated very quickly. As a rule, the DSP service is offered in the rental scheme. The monthly fee covers all costs for new devices, software updates, installation, hardware defects, etc., whereby the DSP bears the full risk.

With the DSP, the software as a service model can also be used .
