Detlef Knorrek

Detlef Knorrek (born July 6, 1965 in Langenhagen ) is a former German judoka who won a bronze medal at the European Championships in 1991.

Athletic career

Detlef Knorrek was third in the 1985 European Junior Championships in the weight class up to 86 kilograms. In 1986 he took third place in the open class at the military world championships. From 1986 the 1.88 m tall Knorrek started in the light heavyweight division, the weight class up to 95 kilograms. In this weight class he was German champion in 1987, 1991, 1992, 1993 and 1995.

In 1988 Knorrek won a bronze medal at the world championships for students. In 1989 he won his first international tournament with the Belgian Open Championships. In 1990 he won the Goodwill Games in Seattle. At the European Championships in 1991 he was defeated by the French Stéphane Traineau in the round of 16 , with three wins in the round of hope Knorrek secured a bronze medal. In 1992 he won the World Masters tournament in Munich. At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona he was defeated by Waza-ari in his opening fight to the Romanian Radu Ivan .

In 1993 Detlef Knorrek took seventh place at the European Championships. In 1994 he won the Goodwill Games for the second time in Saint Petersburg. After he had already won several medals at European team championships with the German team, the German team won the European team championships in 1994 and came second behind the French at the team world championships. In 1995 the German team defended the European title. In March 1996 Knorrek won the Grand Prix tournament in Rome, where he defeated the Portuguese Pedro Soares in the final . 1996 in Atlanta Knorrek took part in the Olympic Games for the second time. After a bye in the first round he was defeated in the second round by Ippon to Pedro Soares after 2:14 minutes. Knorrek remained without a win at the Olympic Games.

Knorrek started for the Judo Team Hannover .
