The Franco-German Cultural Center Ramallah ( French : Center culturel franco-allemand de Ramallah ) is an amalgamation of the Goethe-Institut Palestinian Territories and the Institut français Jerusalem.

The institute is funded by the Franco-German culture channel Arte and the European Union . They provided technology, films and large parts of the library equipment.

history

The Goethe-Institut began its work in the Palestinian Territories in 1998, the Institut français in 1997.

With the founding of a joint cultural center on June 19, 2004, I hope that this example of Franco-German cooperation in a region marked by crises and violence can set positive signals in the way that peoples and neighbors who were once hostile can cooperate today.

One of the first visitors to the new institute was the American film star Richard Gere , who visited the institute on June 5th. Gere was very impressed by the results of a film workshop that produced six short feature films for Palestinian children and young people.

In Ramallah , the Goethe-Institut and the Institut français hold educational and cultural events. Its offer includes workshops and seminars in the field of German and French as a foreign language as well as a differentiated language course and examination program.

Projects in the fields of film, visual arts, music, theater, dance, architecture and science are presented in the cultural center.

Media library

The Robert Schuman media library

The Robert-Schuman-Mediathek offers a joint media inventory of over 11,000 media and provides information on current aspects of cultural, social and political life in Germany and France . It offers book and media collections for everyone who is interested in Germany or France.

A selection of these holdings is regularly presented in the Bibliobus at schools with German or French lessons in the West Bank and East Jerusalem . On board are French and German picture books, books for beginners, books for young people, fairy tales, non-fiction books, also in Arabic translation. Children and young people who do not have sufficient access to literature are to be provided with reading material.
