German Society for Gastroenterology, Digestive and Metabolic Diseases
The German Society for Gastroenterology, Digestive and Metabolic Diseases ( DGVS ) is the scientific specialist society of German gastroenterologists . It was founded in 1913 to study the digestive organs . The American Gastroenterological Association had existed in the USA since 1897 , and the Japanese Society for Gastroenterology , founded in 1902 in Japan .
The first board consisted of Carl Anton Ewald (1st chairman), Adolf Schmidt (medical doctor, 1865) (2nd chairman), Ismar Isidor Boas , Hugo Starck and Curt Pariser . An advisory committee and a secretary were also provided. The new association saw itself as supranational and interdisciplinary. The conference venues were, for example, Amsterdam and Budapest, and pathologists and surgeons were also involved in the work. The society only received the addition of “German” to its name after its 14th conference in 1938. The first conference on digestive and metabolic diseases took place in April 1914 in Bad Homburg in front of the height .
The DGVS is based in Hamburg, and its office is in Berlin. The DGVS is a member of the AWMF . The President of the Society is Markus M. Lerch from the Greifswald University Hospital .
goals and tasks
The DGVS promotes scientific research and the development of standards in the diagnosis and treatment of gastroenterological diseases.
The focus is in particular on the development and publication of guidelines , the support of the next generation and the maintenance of international relations in the field. Another focus is the further training of doctors in clinics and practices.
