The German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan , also Japan Chamber of Commerce Abroad (AHK Japan), with its 450 members, is an organization founded under Japanese law on the basis of voluntary membership. It has existed in its current form since 1962 and, alongside the German Embassy in Japan and Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI), is the central pillar of German foreign trade promotion in the country. It is part of a network of 140 AHK offices in 92 countries worldwide. The AHK Japan is also a co-sponsor of the European Business Council (EBC), the lobby arm of the European chambers of commerce in Japan. The current managing director and delegate of German business in Japan is Marcus Schürmann. Donald Bunkenburg has held the office of President since December 1, 2018.

tasks

The tasks of the AHK Japan are divided into three areas: It is a service provider, member organization and actor in German foreign trade promotion, which operates as a link between the German and Japanese economies.

Foreign trade promotion

The AHK Japan is the central agency for German foreign trade promotion in Japan and is partially funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) . It supports bilateral economic relations through information and public relations work, the establishment and maintenance of networks as well as support and representation of German economic institutions in Japan. The support of companies is the focus of their work, but also location promotion for Germany and a number of other tasks, such as the identification of relevant developments and future topics are part of it.

service provider

The AHK Japan is a globally networked service company under the DEinternational brand . With a team of trilingual advisors (German, Japanese, English), she supports you with market entry, delegation trips, market analyzes, establishing contacts, etc. and also offers incubation offices integrated into the chamber. As a nonprofit organization with an official mandate, it acts neutrally and not guided by interests.

Membership organization

The AHK Japan is traditionally also a member organization. Around 420 members create a network on the basis of voluntary membership to promote the exchange of information and experience and the search for partners. In close association with other European chambers, the interests of the member companies towards Japanese bodies are also pursued. In addition, the AHK Japan offers its members a wide range of information events, working groups and platforms for exchange and networking.

Information gathering and dissemination

The procurement and evaluation as well as further processing of relevant information about the Japanese market and German economic relations and business in Japan is a central task of the AHK Japan, which significantly shapes the three above-mentioned areas of activity. In addition to commissioned studies and information events, media such as the news website www.japanmarkt.de and the business magazine JAPAN MARKT, which appears every two months, are the only German-language business magazine with a focus on Japan.

financing

The AHK Japan is financed through membership fees, fees for the services offered and a grant from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) .
