German war cemetery Rshew
The German war cemetery Rshew is located on the P87 road at the entrance to the city of Rzhev on the upper reaches of the Volga . It is a collective cemetery for (as of 2014) 26,000 German soldiers killed in World War II .

Many civilians and soldiers were killed in the Battle of Rzhev during World War II. In the search for unknown graves, reburies have been carried out on the war cemetery since the beginning of the 21st century.

The German war cemetery was inaugurated together with the Russian one on September 28, 2002. The names of the German fallen soldiers are recorded on granite steles as a souvenir.
Connection with the Soviet war cemetery in Rshew
On the opposite side of the street is the Soviet war cemetery Rshew with 11,000 war dead (as of 2012). A replica of Käthe Kollwitz's sculpture "Mourning Parents" was placed in front of the cemetery gate of the German war cemetery in 2014. The sculpture of the grieving parents also looks out over the graves of the Soviet war cemetery.
Reconciliation over the graves
German and Russian youths tend the graves of both cemeteries. There is a town twinning between Gütersloh and Rshew and a collaboration between two schools.
