The German Embassy School Addis Ababa - DBSAA for short - is a German school abroad in Addis Ababa , Ethiopia . The private school is supported by a school association and financially and personally supported by the Federal Republic of Germany .
history
The school was founded in 1955 as the German School Addis Ababa after the first attempt before the Second World War had failed. Up until the 1970s it was an encounter school with a boarding school and was re-established in 1978 as the German Embassy School Addis Ababa on the premises of the German Embassy after it was closed by the Ethiopian government at the time . It has been located on a plot of land near the embassy since 2000. Almost 140 students (2009/10 school year) are currently attending the DBSAA. As a recognized IB school, students have been able to achieve the IB diploma in addition to the secondary school leaving certificate and the intermediate educational qualification since 2004 and thus study in Germany.
With the conclusion of the so-called “ Memorandum of Understanding ” (MoU for short) between the Federal Foreign Office and the Ethiopian Ministry of Education in 2007, Ethiopian children can also go to school again under certain conditions. In the course of the increasing number of students, the foundation stone was laid on February 20, 2010 for a new primary school.
