German Association for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Association for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (DVSE), based in Hamburg, is an association of doctors who are interested and active in shoulder and elbow surgery . The DVSE is a section of the German Society for Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery (DGOOC) and the German Society for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery (DGOU).

history

The working group for shoulder surgery as a forerunner of the DVSE in Germany was founded under the influence of similar developments abroad. As early as 1980, the Inaugural International Conference on Surgery of the Shoulder in London was initiated by Lipmann Kessel and Charles Neer with the German participants Udo Laumann and Reinhard Kölbel. The American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) were founded in 1982 and in 1987 the SECEC-ESSSE, the European Society for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, was founded in Paris.

In 1987 the shoulder working group in the German Society for Orthopedics and Traumatology (DGOT) was founded by members of the Hamburg workshop, here primarily Reinhard Kölbel, Achim Hedtmann, Jürgen Zippel, Hans-Raimund Casser and Hanns Fett, after these members on the occasion of a Attendance at the 3rd International Conference on Surgery of the Shoulder (ICSS) in Fukuoka, Japan (October 28-30, 1986) came to the conclusion that German shoulder surgery was poorly represented internationally. The foundations for the creation of this working group were laid in 1983 with the 1st Hamburg Shoulder Workshop. The workshop was inaugurated by Reinhard Kölbel. It included theoretical contributions, an operation course on cadavers in the anatomy of the UKE and participation in live operations.

The connection to the DGOT was formally established through an invitation to all university hospitals to participate in this working group.

The circle of initially around 20 members developed the so-called workshop talks. Annual visits to the workplaces of individual members took place here for friendly exchange, which served to get to know their practical clinical work methods. At the annual DGOT congress in Hamburg in 1991, the shoulder and elbow surgery working group was able to hold its first meeting with presentations from its members. Achim Hedtmann was elected chairman of the working group.

Under the impression of the quality of the meetings of the European Society for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (SECEC-ESSSE 1991 in Würzburg, Jochen Eulert), the conviction slowly formed that only a separate German-speaking society would be suitable, the level of knowledge and scientific activities on the To advance the field of shoulder and elbow surgery.

On the occasion of the last workshop discussions, for which Frank Gohlke in Würzburg organized a conference on the subject of "The partial defect of the rotator cuff" in 1994, it was decided to put these considerations into practice. There was therefore a constituent meeting in the Orthopedic Clinic König-Ludwig-Haus, at which a board was elected for the first time (President: Achim Hedtmann, 1st Vice President: Achim Reichelt, 2nd Vice President: Frank Gohlke, Treasurer: Christian Melzer and Secretary : Hans-Raimund Casser), who should realize the ideas of the working group.

With the establishment of the DVSE, the foundation stone was laid for further scientific activities such as the subsequent DVSE congresses.

tasks

The German Association for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery exclusively and directly pursues non-profit purposes such as promoting science in the field of diseases and injuries of the shoulder and elbow joint in research, teaching and patient care, including rehabilitation for these diseases. The association performs tasks of medical and non-medical advanced training with the aim of improving the care of patients with diseases and injuries of the shoulder and elbow joint. The association sees itself as responsible for technical and scientific questions on its field of activity vis-à-vis the medical profession and the general public and thus as a contact for other associations and associations as well as for institutions and authorities. science

In 2010, Ulrich Brunner expanded the existing committee activities, in which the core work on the aspects of the DVSE mission statement is carried out. Markus Scheibel initiated the implementation of an independent Level 1 multicenter study in 2010 and thus laid the foundation for a new era of scientific work within the DVSE. The association fulfills its duty to inform its members by means of a bulletin. To improve the scientific exchange of ideas, also within the Association for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, the journal “Obere Extremität - Shoulder, Elbow, Hand” was founded as a publication organ of the DVSE in 2006 in cooperation with the hand surgeons under the direction of Markus Loew.

Continuing education and training

The DVSE offers advanced and advanced training in the field of shoulder and elbow surgery. At the annual DVSE congress, participants have the opportunity to bring themselves up to date with the current state of science through the scientific program and instruction courses. In addition to participating in certified courses, DVSE also offers its members internships at training centers in Germany. In Germany, 17 shoulder and elbow training centers and 2 elbow training centers have been appointed by the DVSE (as of 02/2017). Resident doctors in further training to become orthopedists and / or trauma surgeons who are interested in shoulder and elbow surgery can also apply for a subsidized two-week travel grant at these training centers. In addition, the curriculum for certified advanced training in shoulder and elbow surgery was set up in 2008, at which around 40 advanced training events certified by the DVSE take place every year.

During Ulrich Brunner's presidency, the DVSE Young Forum was founded in 2010 to promote the next generation of students under the leadership of Natascha Kraus. In 2016, under the presidency of Markus Scheibel, the forum for interns was launched. The forum for assistant doctors of the DVSE forms the link for all DVSE members in the further training period between their studies (“Young Forum”) and the specialist title, or on the way to certification as a shoulder and elbow surgeon. A structured training concept, taking into account the current training regulations, is intended to convey relevant knowledge for the specialist. In addition, the forum for interns aims to represent the interests of interns within the specialist society and to promote scientific activity. Through cooperation and cross-linking of different centers, z. B. Structure, structure and organs

The German Association for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery eV is a registered non-profit association and currently has 844 members (as of November 2016).

As an association, the DGOU bundles the goals and tasks of its two supporting associations, the German Society for Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery (DGOOC) and the German Society for Trauma Surgery (DGU), and their members. In this context, the DVSE represents an independent section both within the DGOU and within the DGOOC.

The organs of the association are the board of directors (president, 1st vice-president, 2nd vice-president, treasurer and secretary) as well as the general assembly.

The president, the two vice-presidents, the treasurer and the secretary are elected by the general assembly for three years.

The general assembly is the highest body of the society, because it elects and discharges the board of directors, approves the financial and annual report of the board of directors, sets the membership fee at the proposal of the board of directors and decides on the admission and exclusion of a member. It meets at least once a year.

In addition, there is a so-called advisory board consisting of the resigned president, the conference leader and the last conference leader, the chairmen of the commissions and the German "National Delegate" of SECEC, the webmaster, the specialist deputy secretary of the magazine "Obere Extremität" and the editor-in-chief of the information sheet, provided that they are members of the association, exists. The advisory board advises the board of directors on all important company matters.

The cooperating organizations of the DVSE include the AGA (Society for Arthroscopy and Joint Surgery), the AE (Working Group on Endoprosthetics), the AO (Working Group on Osteosynthesis), the BVASK (Professional Association for Arthroscopy), the BVOU (Professional Association of Specialists in Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery) , the DGOU (German Society for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery), the GOTS (Society for Orthopedic-Traumatological Sports Medicine) and the SECEC / ESSSE (Societé Européenne pour la Chirurgie de l'Epaule et du Coude / European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and the Elbow).
