German Federal Association for Speech Therapy (dbl) e. V. is a professional association founded in 1964 for freelance and employed speech therapists . The dbl is also open to other language therapy professions and sees itself as a lobbyist for its members in relation to politics and administration , health insurance companies and other stakeholders in the health sector. In addition, the dbl is committed to expanding and disseminating knowledge of speech therapy.

Origin and development

The dbl was founded under the name Central Association for Speech Therapy in 1964 in Berlin . The aim was the professional representation of the then still new profession of speech therapist, the creation of uniform training rules and the organization of further and advanced training. In 1973 corresponding regional associations were also founded. Annual training congresses have been held since the late 1960s. In 1988 the ZVL was one of the twelve founding members of the CPLOL (Comité Permanent de Liaison des Orthophonistes / Logopèdes). In 1992 the ZVL was renamed Bundesverband für Logopädie e. V.

Work and self-image

The dbl sees itself as representing the interests of speech therapists and members of the speech therapy professions. One of the goals is the academization of the speech therapist profession . The creation of the course at RWTH was a first step, which is now to be continued with the creation of FH courses in speech therapy. The dbl continues to organize regular congresses and training events for speech therapists. He works on the professional guidelines for the profession of speech therapist and is particularly committed to quality assurance. Since 1987 the dbl has published the two-month publication “Forum Logopädie” as an organ.
