The German Wood and Building Protection Association (DHBV) is an association of experts who are active in building conservation, monument preservation and new construction. The association was founded in 1950 and has since represented the professional groups active in wood and building protection nationwide. The association is a member of the Central Associations of the German Building Industry (ZDB) and the German Crafts (ZDH) and is a representative of the industry in standardization committees and bodies (DIN, WTA, GAEB). The core tasks of the association are specialist information, the training of young professionals, the further training of specialists and the qualification of members.

history

It was founded in 1950 under the name Deutscher Holzschutzverband eV . In 1959 the association was renamed Deutscher Holz- und Bautenschutzverband eV - (DHBV) - and a seal of approval for DHBV specialist companies was issued for the first time. Since the areas of activity of a wood and building protector were not clearly defined, in 1978, on the initiative of the German Chamber of Crafts, with the involvement of all industry-related building associations, a list of activities was adopted (list of activities for wood and building protection), which still shows the fields of activity in which wood protectors and building protectors may be commercially active. During the coordination discussions, the DHBV was entrusted with safeguarding the interests of companies active in wood and building protection.

After several failed attempts, the DHBV succeeded in establishing its own training ordinance in 2007 for wood and building protection. The trade thus received two new professions, the two-year training profession for wood and building protection work and the three-year training profession wood and building protection . With the entry into force of the master craftsman's examination regulation for the wood and building protection trade on November 1st, 2012, wood and building protection became a master trade and thus the first new master trade in the building trade since the introduction of the trade regulations in 1953.
