Specialist for wood and building protection work

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The specialist for wood and building protection work has been a state-recognized training occupation in Germany since 2007 according to the Vocational Training Act and the Crafts Code .

History of origin

As a representative of the wood and building protection industry, the German Wood and Building Protection Association made several attempts in the 1990s to implement independent qualification options for the industry. A study by the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BiBB) in 1996 came to the conclusion, however, that the necessary qualifications are covered by the existing construction occupations and that an independent training occupation is therefore not required.

Almost ten years later, the BiBB carried out an expertise and came to the conclusion that a tiered model, two consecutive apprenticeship trades, is available for training: a two-year apprenticeship without specialization and a three-year apprenticeship with two disciplines . This structure was then put into practice.

Duration of training and structure

The training period to become a specialist in wood and building protection work is usually two years. The training takes place at the training company and vocational school . It is a mono occupation that was prescribed in a joint training regulation with the three-year training occupation wood and building protection . The two years of training as a specialist in wood and building protection are identical to the first two years of training as wood and building protection.

Work areas

Specialists in wood and building protection work recognize and eliminate damage caused by animal and vegetable wood destroyers. They fight wood-destroying insects and fungi, carry out preventive wood protection measures and dry out damp structures. You carry out external and internal seals on structures that come into contact with the ground. You are also able to repair masonry damaged by moisture and salt. Skilled workers for wood and building protection work find their place of work in the wood and building protection trade in craft and industry.

professional school

There are four vocational schools in Germany for both apprenticeships in the timber and building protection trade:

  1. Knobelsdorff School in Berlin
  2. Johann Philipp Reis School in Friedberg
  3. State Vocational Training Center Weimar
  4. Vocational college Glockenspitz Krefeld

Continuation of professional training

Apprentices who have successfully completed their training as specialists for wood and building protection work can continue their training in the three-year apprenticeship as wood and building protection work in the third year of training. The results achieved in the final examination (vocational training) are considered part 1 of the extended final examination .
