German Youth Film Award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Youth Film Award is a nationwide forum for film productions by children, adolescents and young adults. The competition has been advertised since 1988 and, with over 600 submissions annually, is one of the most far-reaching events of its kind. The organization is the responsibility of the German Children's and Youth Film Center (KJF) , which runs the competition on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth performs every year. Every year prizes with a total value of 13,000 euros are awarded. The call for proposals starts in September of each year and ends in January of the following year.

history

The competition was founded in 1985 under the name Jugend-Video-Preis . At that time, the award was aimed exclusively at professional and commercial video productions. The aim of the award was to make the flood of productions pouring into the rental and sales market clearer for children and young people and to give parents independent recommendations. The concept of the competition was revised back in 1988. From now on, active media work by children and young people was to be specifically promoted under the name Jugend und Video . Forums and seminars should give them additional help in presenting and discussing their productions. At the same time, the aim of the Youth Video Prize was retained .

In 2001 the two competitions Jugend und Video and Deutscher Jugend-Video-Preis are combined under the new label Deutscher Jugendvideopreis - divided into the sections Young Media : productions by young people and Professional Media : productions for young people. The linking of the young and professional scene should be promoted more decisively in order to offer the young scene also professional orientation opportunities. From 2002, the Professional Media division will finally be completely decoupled from the competition. From now on, under the name Deutscher Jugendvideopreis, it is aimed exclusively at young filmmakers from the non-commercial sector.

In 2016 the competition will be renamed again. The German Youth Video Award becomes the German Youth Film Award . With this renaming, the organizers take current technical developments into account and differentiate themselves conceptually from the YouTubers and web video scene. However, the concept of the competition remains unchanged. The best film productions by children, adolescents and young adults up to the age of 25 will continue to receive awards.
