The German Association for Photography (DVF) is an umbrella organization for amateur photography clubs and associations as well as Photo photographers and photographers throughout the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany. The association was founded in 1908 as the "Association of German Amateur Photographers Associations (VDAV)" in Berlin, and since 1991 it has had its current name.
The DVF is registered with the registry court in Cologne, register of associations VR 16593 and recognized as a non-profit organization. As a national association, the DVF is a member of the internationally operating Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique (FIAP). FIAP is the international umbrella organization of the national photo associations in the context of artistic and global competition and exhibition photography. 325 photo clubs (associations) and over 5,365 members are organized in the association (as of January 2008) and use it as a common forum for exchanging experiences, joint exhibitions and competitions.
Purpose and goals of the association
The German Association for Photography eV (DVF) offers itself as a forum for national and international photo exhibitions, photo seminars, photo clubs, hobby photography and competition photography. He sees himself as a synonym for German amateur photography and, with his international activities, is also the representative of Germany in FIAP . The association and the photo clubs affiliated to the association offer members a wide range of opportunities for further training in photography. Experienced photographers pass on their knowledge, seminars with renowned experts as speakers are organized at various levels and supported by the association. With its regular photo competitions, the DVF offers a forum for amateur photographers in which everyone can compare their photographic achievements with those of other members.
Organization of the association
Bureau
The association is currently headed by a five-person presidium, consisting of:
- The President
- The 1st Vice-President
- The 2nd Vice President
- The Vice President for Finance
- The Vice President for legal and constitutional issues
The presidium is elected by the association day (annual general meeting of members) for a period of four years.
Statutes regulate rights and obligations. The extended decision-making body is the entire board, which consists of the members of the executive committee, the representatives and the state chairmen.
The agents
Special tasks in the association are carried out by so-called »agents«. The DVF representatives are the specialists among the employees in the association. They deal intensively with very specific tasks such as the all-important member administration, youth work and seminars or data protection. Often they have the knowledge necessary for their respective task due to their work or years of experience.
The representatives are appointed by the entire Board of Management in accordance with the provisions of the Articles of Association by resolution in accordance with Section 20.5. A representative can take on several tasks. Representatives are the contact persons when it comes to questions on special topics, such as FIAP awards (the FIAP representative) or changes of address (member administration).
The following tasks are performed by agents:
- Member administration
- privacy
- Supervision of young photographers (youth)
- Contact to FIAP, international competitions
- Internet presence editorial team (webmaster)
- Editors »DVF-journal« (members' magazine)
structure
In order to be able to look after its members personally and as quickly as possible, the DVF is divided into ten regional areas, the so-called »DVF countries«. Their scope corresponds in part, but not always and necessarily, to the German federal states. For example, the DVF state NORDMARK comprises the three federal states of Bremen, Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein. They sometimes differ considerably in terms of the number of members and the area of responsibility. For this reason, the larger DVF countries such as Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg or the aforementioned NORDMARK are again divided into districts. The DVF countries are headed by state chairmen, and district managers are appointed as contact persons for the districts.
The federal association is divided into the following DVF countries:
- L 1 - Berlin / Brandenburg / Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
- L 2 - NORDMARK (Bremen - Lower Saxony - Schleswig-Holstein)
- L 3 - Westphalia
- L 4 - Hesse / Rhineland-Palatinate
- L 5 - North Rhine (Rhineland)
- L 6 - Saarland
- L 7 - Baden-Württemberg
- L 8 - Bavaria
- L 9 - Hamburg
- L 10 - Saxony / Saxony-Anhalt / Thuringia
history
Association of German Amateur Photographers Associations (VDAV)
In 1907 the associations of amateur photographers based in the capital of the Reich organized the establishment of the Association of German Amateur Photographers , the predecessor organization of the DVF, which was received with great acclaim . After it was founded on February 16, 1908 in Berlin, in the "paper house" on Dessauer Strasse, various photo magazines published an announcement with the following content:
- “Often the attempt has been made to bring the German amateur clubs together to protect their common interests, but so far all efforts in this regard have unfortunately not been successful. The reason for this failure may have been largely due to the fact that our older, large amateur clubs have so far refrained from any merger, that the smaller clubs often show a great willingness to work, but do not have the resources required for a strong, effective management of an association to be able to procure alone.
- Now the boards of a large number of important clubs have come to an agreement and have spoken out in favor of founding an association of German amateur clubs. On February 16, the constituent assembly took place, in which 39 associations were represented.
- As is well known, the impetus for the current association of amateurs was formed by the initially rigorous provisions of the paper ring. With the vigorous action of the dealerships, the subscription ratios have now changed. Since the price convention is primarily about the sale of paper in cut formats, i.e. the so-called amateur packs, it might have been appropriate to hear the consumers about this once, then such advances as the prohibition of the The sale of single bows to amateurs did not appear at all, but the amateurs lack any organization or representation. That has now changed.
- The association was not founded, as was assumed by some parties, just to keep an eye on paper and other conventions, but it will look after the entire interests of the amateurs to the greatest possible extent.
- It hardly needs to be mentioned that the amateurs have an enormous consumption of paper, that the amateur photography has taken a huge boom in the last few years, and last but not least, that the promotion of photography in general, the expansion of apparatus and Processes that amateurs have contributed infinitely.
- We wholeheartedly wish that the young association will stick together in unity, that it will exercise its beneficial effect for the entire amateur world and also contribute to the further improvement of photography. "
So the - here abbreviated - announcement of the then managing director of the association, Paul Hanneke, which was published variously.
On the first delegates' day, which took place again in Berlin from April 9th to 11th, 1908 only two months after the founding meeting, the young association specified its objectives. And the representative associations showed a great deal of expertise in this. After all, there were delegates at work who had already gone public with large and international exhibitions. First a statute had to be adopted. This determined the purpose: "The association unites the German amateur photography associations to protect their common interests."
The following were elected to the board:
- 1st chairman: Chamberlain u. Major a. D. Oskar H. v. Westernhagen, Berlin / Teistungen
- 2nd Chairman: Director L. Sanne, Hamburg
- 3rd chairman: Dr. Stein, Wiesbaden
The delegate days, later association days, were held in various German cities.
The association was renamed the »German Association for Photography« in 1991 on the initiative of President Georg S. Holzmann and a resolution passed by the Association Day at the general meeting in Siegen.
Anyone interested in photography can become a member of the DVF. The membership includes, depending on the membership category , the delivery of the magazine PHOTOGRAPHIE and other information materials.
