The DVS - German Association for Welding and Allied Processes e. V. is a technical and scientific professional association that is active in all areas of joining technology .

In addition to welding, this also includes other joining processes, adhesive technologies, coating processes and cutting processes, each related to metallic or non-metallic materials and material composites . DVS sees its main task as comprehensively promoting joining technology.

The DVS works on a non-profit basis and maintains close contacts with institutions, research institutes for business and politics. It has more than 19,000 members, a good 16,500 people and almost 3,000 companies and institutions.

Purpose, goals and tasks

DVS promotes welding and all related processes in the general interest and for the benefit of the German economy. That is why DVS makes the results of its work available to the public.

DVS initiates and supports research and developments on materials, technologies and joining applications through the Research Association for Welding and Allied Processes. V. of DVS, in which companies, corporations and research institutes from all areas of joining technology participate. The central field of activity of the DVS research association is industrial joint research (IGF) in the fields of joining, cutting and coating. For the financial support of this joint research, the research association of the DVS works together with the working group of industrial research associations " Otto von Guericke " eV (AiF) and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi).

At around 300 educational institutions nationwide, DVS promotes the training and further education of joining specialists. It is involved in the development of educational and examination content and also regulates the examination and certification of specialists and the quality assurance of companies. With its facilities, which are recognized by the state, DVS also monitors the professional welding of constructions and structures on behalf of building supervisory authorities, testing institutes and manufacturers.

The organs of the association are the annual meeting , the presidium , the board of directors and the general management . In technical terms, DVS is divided into the committees for education , finance , regional associations and the committee for technology . In the Committee on Technology -Information Association of work for more than 2,000 professionals in more than 200 professionally oriented working groups with the German Association for Welding together.

The association consists of 13 regional associations and 74 district associations. There are also over 300 DVS educational institutions and numerous advice centers. According to its own information, DVS trains around 100,000 people annually.
