The German Wave Riding Association e. V. (DWV) is the national umbrella organization for surf clubs and individual members. As a top sports association, DWV has been a member of the German Olympic Sports Confederation since January 1, 2017 . At national level, he is a member of the German Sports Teachers Association (DSLV). At the European level, the DWV is affiliated with the European Surfing Federation (ESF). The DWV is also a member of the International Surfing Association (ISA).

The association also acts as a competition organizer for the German surfing championships (SurfDM) and the German university championships (ADH). The competitions traditionally take place on the Atlantic coast of southern France.
