The exhibits include written and photo documents, medals, club flags, trophies, a model of a gazebo with furnishings from around 1900, models of gardens and allotments, historical garden tools and the like. a.

The museum also includes a museum garden with one of the oldest gazebos in Germany, which was built there in 1880, an exhibition garden with four historic Saxon gazebos from the period from 1890 to 1930 and a children's playground with historical play equipment based on the example of a playground around 1900. The museum itself is located in a historic location: in the clubhouse of the world's first allotment club, named after the Leipzig doctor Dr. Moritz Schreber and was founded in 1864 and still exists today as the "Dr. Schreber" allotment gardening association .

History of the museum

In 1991 the idea arose to set up an allotment gardening museum at a central location in unified Germany. On February 12, 1992, the Friends of the German Allotment Garden Museum in Leipzig eV was founded. With funding from the federal government, the state of Saxony, the city of Leipzig and with the help of numerous donations from allotment gardeners, associations and allotment gardening associations from all parts of Germany, the comprehensive renovation and reconstruction of the listed building of the allotment gardener association "Dr. Schreber" was set up in 1896 taken. The building was completed in 1993. The museum was opened on August 23, 1996 as part of the XXX. Congress of the international allotment gardeners association opened.
