The German Tool Museum is a technology museum in Remscheid . The museum, which has existed since 1967, is the only one of its kind in Germany . It houses an extensive technical, social and cultural history collection of tools from various millennia, from the Stone Age to the 21st century. The collection is of national handicraft and industrial history; it includes hand tools, machine tools , and power tools .
With the renovation and expansion work ended in 1996, a new specialist museum concept was developed and the German Tool Museum was reopened in 1998 on the basis of this concept.
The redesigned tool museum shows the importance of the Remscheid area as an important center of the German tool industry. It also documents the development of tool production, the use of tools, and tool trade and sales throughout Germany.
