Research and treatment

The focus is on the treatment and research of heart failure and the resulting complications in patients with cardiovascular risk factors or other diseases. Around 120 scientists from basic and clinical research work in strictly interdisciplinary teams to develop efficient strategies for the prevention of heart failure and its complications, optimize therapy methods for heart failure and develop innovative research approaches for new therapeutic strategies.

Specialist care for heart failure

The DZHI has developed and evaluated a disease management program for the post-inpatient care of patients with systolic heart failure . Central to the program called HeartNetCare-HF TM is the close-knit care of the patient by a trained heart failure nurse, who assumes a coordinating interface function between the treating providers, the patient and their relatives. In the meantime, many clinics across Germany have had their cardiological nursing staff trained or further educated at the DZHI.

Another unique selling point of the DZHI is the heart failure outpatient clinic , in which cardiologists , pacemaker experts and kidney specialists , neurologists , psychologists and psychiatrists, endocrinologists and geneticists work together. The outpatient department is open to all patients in a larger area. At the same time, it works as an information and contact point for the clinics and doctors in the region on issues relating to heart failure therapy.
