The Teutonic Knights' House is located on the corner of Grazer Sporgasse and Hofgasse in the first district of the Inner City .

History and design

The origin of the house goes back to the 15th and 16th centuries. It served as the seat of the Teutonic Knight Order , which also looked after the properties around the Leech Church . The house was created by merging two single houses at the place called " in der Grueb ". According to an inscription decorated with a coat of arms, the building itself was acquired by Count Seyfried von Saurau for the order of knights on October 1, 1689 and connected to Hofgasse from 1690 to 1694. The smooth facade bears witness to the late Renaissance style and has a marble relief. The stone portal with the Cross of the Order on the keystone dates from the first quarter of the 16th century. A barrel vault leads from the Sporgasse to the inner courtyard. The courtyard shows the transition from the late Gothic to the Renaissance and dates from the first two decades of the 16th century. The inner courtyard is dominated on one side by a protruding staircase. There are also two-storey pillar arcades and column arcades on the top floor.
