The Deutz D 5505 is a Deutz tractor that was produced from 1965 to 1967 in the Deutz works in Cologne . A total of 7500 tractors of this Deutz model were built. Since the demand for more powerful tractors increased in the mid-1960s, the tractor sold comparatively well despite its short construction period.

The equipment of the tractor corresponded to its predecessor, the D 55. It kept the ZF transmission and was equipped with the more powerful F4L812S engine. This newly developed motor impressed with its stronger performance and smoother running. The air-cooled Deutz three-cylinder four-stroke direct injection diesel engine of the type F3L912 from engine series 9 was considered to be a robust and lively tractor engine. The engine's output is 38 kW and the top speed is 30 km / h. With a width of 1800  mm and a length of 3730 mm, the empty weight is 2450  kg .

In 1967 Deutz developed the twin-engine D 5505 Tandem articulated tractor. Since, among other things, the synchronization of the two drive units caused problems, this did not reach series production.
