Decimal calculator

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The ENIAC, introduced in 1946, was a decimal calculator

Decimal calculators can display data and addresses in decimal format. The instructions can manipulate the decimal data directly without converting them to binary form.

In the early phase of computer history, calculating machines like the ENIAC , the UNIVAC I , the IBM 1401 , the IBM 650 and the IBM 7070 were often implemented . The IBM 1401 used a combination of decimal and binary arithmetic. Later, when using microprocessors, there were instructions to convert 1-byte binary coded decimal numbers into a binary number. Computers of the Intel 80x86 family can do this.
