Dhobley

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dhobley (also written Dobley or Doble ) is a town in southwest Somalia on the border with Kenya . It is located in the administrative region of Jubbada Hoose in the Afmadow district on a road that leads from the Somali port city of Kismaayo via the nearby Liboi border crossing to Dadaab in Kenya.

history

Because of this location, Dhobley has served as a transit point for a large number of Somali refugees who are trying to get to the refugee camps in Kenya since the beginning of the Somali civil war .

In early 2007, Kenya largely closed its border with Somalia, fearing the influx of Islamic militants and small arms among the refugees. Since then, thousands of rejected refugees have remained under precarious conditions as internally displaced persons in Dhobley. On March 2, 2008, a US air strike took place in Dhobley, which was supposed to hit al-Qaeda activists allegedly present . At least four people are said to have been killed and 20 injured.

On October 17, 2011, Dhobley was occupied by the Kenyan army . The background to this are attacks and kidnappings in the Kenyan border area for which the Kenyan government blamed the Al-Shabaab militia .
